Euro Budo is an association that was created by Clive Greenhalgh (7th Dan) in the early 90's. It's original purpose was to provide a high standard of Martial Art training to Adults and children connected with the British Forces and Nato through out Europe and the rest of the world. As the Military world is a transient community, various Martial arts instructors have passed through the doors of Euro Budo clubs, each donating part of their own experience and style resulting in a wealth of knowledge and experience throughout the association.
In Germany there are clubs in Fallingbostel, Hohne, and Gutersloh. In Cypress the club is at Akrotiri Air Base. Britian has a club in York, Aylesbury, South Hampton and Lancaster
The association teaches four main Japanese disciplines, namely Judo, Karate, Aikido and Atemi Jitsu.
Judo - The Gentle Way
This modern Olympic Sport developed from Ju-Jitsu is fast re-gaining popularity right across Europe. It gives the ability to over come superior strength with technique and the understanding of balance. In this art we throw and hold down to achieve an Ippon (win).
We have stayed faithful to the teachings of Kenshiro Abbe (The father of British Judo) and his theory of circles as the most effective form of Judo.
Karate - The Empty Hand
Strictly speaking Karate is not a Martial art as it was not developed for use within a military system but devised as a form of self defence for civilians to use. It is also not truly Japanese as it originated from Okinawa which has been under both Chinese and Japanese rule, thus having the benefit of being derived from the techniques of both these cultures.
We adhere strongly to the teachings of Ginchin Funakoshi but although very traditional in our approach we believe Karate should be taught as a practical form of combat, much like it’s original purpose.
Aikido - The Way of Harmony
Developed around the principles of the sword and remained for many years the martial art of the court circles in Japan and only taught to peasants after the founder of modern aikido released it earlier this century. This art relies upon a deep understanding of body mechanics, balance and self belief. We have stayed true to Morhei Ueshiba (The founder of modern Aikido).
Atemi Jitsu - Self Defence
This art focuses solely on self defence and mixes modern techniques and approaches combined with the best of traditional etiquette and respect for life. This art was developed by Mr Bleakman in the early ‘60s and was designed for students to learn effective self defence in a short period of time using the techniques best suited to the individual.
